Housing

Our house staff is encourage to live in hospital housing.  The New York Presbyterian Hospital owns several adjacent modern apartment buildings in our Upper East Side neighborhood.  There are several call rooms within the hospital and most housestaff, unless involved in obstetrical anesthesia, PACU or ICU rotation are able to take call from home.

Approximate Rents for 2004-2005:

- Studio    : $735-1010
1 Bedroom : $970-1385
2 Bedroom : $1290-1510
3 Bedroom : $1535-1890

Memberships & Book Allowances

We encourage our resident to build their own professional library, first by giving them “the basic” textbook, and later by giving them a book allowance to purchase texts in areas of special interest.

PGY-2 / CA-1

  • NYSSA/ASA Membership (includes a subscription to the journal Anesthesiology)
  • IARS Membership (includes a subcription to the journal Anesthesia & Analgesia
  • Miller & Stoelting's Basics of Anesthesia
  • Miller's Anesthesia (2 Volume + CD)
  • Hemming's Foundations of Anesthesia
  • Brown's Atlas of Regional Anesthesia
  • $ 300.00 book allowance
  • New York State License fee reimbursement

PGY-3 / CA-2

  • Jaffe's An Anesthesiologist's Manual of Surgical Procedures

PGY-4 /  CA-3

  • $ 700.00 meeting/book allowance  (this allowance can be used toward your board exam)

  • Rathmell's Regional Anesthesia : The Requisites in Anesthesiology
  • Three Conference days
  • Five Interview days

General Information

On call meals are provided by the department.  Computers with internet access are available in the newly designed library for general use.
