WMC "White Coat Ceremony" for New Medical Students (August 24)—Weill
Medical
College will hold a white-coat ceremony for new medical students on
Tuesday, August 24, at 3
p.m. in Uris Auditorium (preceding "Opening Day" exercises at 4 p.m.).
Dr. Fred Plum, university professor, Weill Medical College, will be the
principal speaker; Dr. Antonio M. Gotto, Jr., dean and provost for medical
affairs, will introduce the Hippocratic Oath; and the members of the Class
of 2003 will receive their new white coats.
"Opening Day" Exercises (August 24)—WMC and CUGSMS will hold
opening exercises marking
the beginning of the academic year on Tuesday, August 24, at 4 p.m.
in Uris Auditorium.
Speakers will include Cornell University president Hunter Rawlings;
WMC dean Dr. Antonio Gotto; and Dr. Frederick Maxfield, chairman of the
department of biochemistry, who will present the traditional keynote address.
Volunteers Needed for Psychotherapy Study—Dr. Barbara Milrod
of the Department of
Psychiatry is seeking patients who suffer from panic attacks to volunteer
for a clinical research
study. Patients are eligible if they are between the ages of 18 and
50. No medications will be
used in this treatment. For further information, please contact Dr.

Free Screenings for Prostate Cancer (Sept. 21 and 23)—Free screenings
for prostate
cancer will be offered by the Department of Urology at New York Weill
Cornell in conjunction
with "Prostate Cancer Awareness Week" (September 20-24). Appointments
for the free
screenings must be made in advance and will be scheduled from 9 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. The
screening location will be 428 E. 72nd St., Suite 400. For an appointment

Free Pediatric Health Fair (September 25)—The Departments of Pediatrics
and Public Health
invite families from North and Central Harlem to a free health fair
at Family Academy School in
Central Harlem (240 West 113th St. between 7th and 8th avenues) from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free screenings and presentations focusing on general
and developmental pediatrics will be offered. For more information, call
