Free Screenings for Prostate Cancer (Sept. 21 and 23)—Free screenings
for prostate cancer will be offered by the Department of Urology at New
York Weill Cornell in conjunction with "Prostate Cancer Awareness Week"
(September 20-24). Appointments for the free screenings must be made in
advance and will be scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The screening location
will be 428 E. 72nd St., Suite 400. For an appointment or more information,

Free Film Screening (Sept. 22)—The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and
Transgendered Organization (LGBTO) of Weill Medical College and Graduate
School kicks off their FREE movie series beginning Wednesday, September
22, at 8 p.m. in Weill Auditorium (C-2) with the screening of the film
"Go." All members of the tri-institutional community (NYPH-WMC, Rockefeller
Univ., MSKCC) are welcome to attend. For more information about the

Free Pediatric Health Fair (September 25)—The Departments of
Pediatrics and Public Health invite families from North and Central Harlem
to a free health fair at Family Academy School in Central Harlem (240 West
113th St. between 7th and 8th avenues) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free
screenings and presentations focusing on general and developmental pediatrics

Support Groups for Parents (Sept. 27)—The Employee Assistance
Program Consortium at New York Weill Cornell will facilitate two support
groups, "Talking with Your Teen" and "Meeting the Challenge of Both Working
and Parenting," starting on Monday, September 27, at 12 noon. These one-hour
lunchtime support groups are free and run for 6 weeks. Reserve early as

R.U. Cohn Forum on Health Affairs (September 29)—Rockefeller
University's first Zanvil A. Cohn Forum on Health Affairs for the 1999-2000
academic year will feature a talk on "The Future in Biomedical Science:
What We Will Be Able to Do and What We Will Be Allowed to Do" by Dr. Daniel
Koshland Jr., of the University of California (Berkeley) and former editor
of Science. The lecture begins at 5:30 p.m. in Caspary Auditorium, following
a sherry reception (5:00-5:30 p.m.). All are welcome.
Strang Keynote Lecture (Sept. 30)—The Strang Cancer Prevention Center
will host a lecture entitled "Reinventing Medicine: Beyond Mind-Body to
a New Era of Healing," by best-selling physician-author Dr. Larry Dossey.
Dr. Michael Osborne, President of the Strang CPC, and Dr. Mitchell Gaynor,
Strang's Director of Medical Oncology and Integrative Medicine, will comment
on work being done at the Strang in the area of integrative medicine.
The lecture will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Uris Auditorium and is free and
open to the public.
Lung Cancer Screening Conf. (Oct. 1-3)—The Department of Radiology
will host a three-day Conference on Screening for Lung Cancer Oct. 1-3
at Weill Medical College. The program will include presentations by Weill
Cornell faculty and guest speakers from other medical centers in the U.S.,
Canada, England, Israel, and Japan. For more information, call 746-2529.

Breast Cancer Symposium (Oct. 4)—New York-Cornell Breast Center
and Strang Cancer Prevention Center will present "Breast Cancer Diagnosis
and Treatment at the Millennium," moderated by Dr. Alexander Swistel,
from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. in Uris Auditorium. Presentations will include:
"The Latest in Breast Imaging" by Dr. Ruth Rosenblatt; "Refinements in
Breast Surgery" by Dr. Rache Simmons; "Advances in Breast Reconstruction"
by Dr. Lloyd Gayle; "The State of Genetic Testing" by Dr. Fred Gilbert;
"Complementary Therapy" by Dr. Mitchell Gaynor; and "Looking Ahead to the
21st Century" by Dr. Anne Moore. A Q&A session will follow.
Registration is not required, but seating is limited to the first 250 people.

Health Advocates Conference (Oct. 7)—Health Advocates for Older
People HDFC, Inc. presents a multi-disciplinary conference entitled "Assisted
Living: New Opportunities and Challenges" from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.,
at The University Club, 1 West 54th St. Dr. Mark Lachs, Co-chief,
Division of Geriatric and Gerontology, New York Presbyterian Hospital,
will be a panelist for the session "Health Issues of Independent Living."

Ninth Annual Medical Complex Art Show (submit entries by Oct. 8)—All
faculty, staff, and students of New York Presbyterian Hospital and its
Network, Weill Medical College and Graduate School, MSKCC, RU, and HSS
are encouraged to submit up to 6 slides or photographs of their artwork
for exhibition in the Ninth Medical Complex Art Show, sponsored by the
Weill Cornell Medical Library. The show features paintings, photographs,
computer-generated art, sculpture, ceramics, and handicrafts. The show
opens in late October and runs through January 2000. Submit entries by
October 8 to Helen-Ann Brown, Weill Cornell Medical Library (C-115), 1300

Community Health & Wellness Seminars (October 5-November 9)—New
York Weill Cornell’s Office of Public Affairs is sponsoring its Fall seminar
series on five Tuesdays between October 5 and November 9. Topics cover
the prevention and treatment of men’s vascular health (Oct. 5); sports
injuries, osteoporosis, and osteoarthritis (Oct. 12); the latest in facelifts,
brow lifts, lasers, and rhinoplasty (Oct. 19); the impact of hormone replacement
therapy on breast cancer and heart disease (Oct. 26); and the treatment
of chronic depression (Nov. 9). All seminars will begin at 7:00 p.m. in
Uris Auditorium, 1300 York Avenue (at 69th St.), and are free and open

Women's Health Symposium (Oct.13)—Mary Higgins Clark, the best-selling
female suspense writer in the U.S., will be the keynote speaker at the
seventeenth annual Women's Health Symposium, sponsored by the New York
Weill Cornell Center. This year's theme is "Womanhood: A Work In
Progress." The symposium will be held at 12 noon at Citibank, 399

Volunteers Needed for Psychotherapy Study—Dr. Barbara Milrod
of the Department of Psychiatry is seeking patients who suffer from panic
attacks to volunteer for a clinical research study. Patients are
eligible if they are between the ages of 18 and 50. No medications
will be used in this treatment. For further information, please contact
Dr. Milrod at 746-5868.
Support Groups for Caregivers—The Caregivers Service at New York
Weill Cornell is forming support groups for spouse/partner caregivers;
adults caring for parents, family, or friends; as well as a bereavement
group. Individual counseling is also available. Participation is limited
to caregivers and the bereaved involved with people age 65 and older. Individual
and group counseling is free of charge. Call the HealthOutreach office
