Women’s Neurologic Health Initiative Conf. (Jan. 13)—The
Department of Neurology & Neuroscience invites all health professionals
to an interdisciplinary conference entitled "Mind, Mood, and Neuroendecrine
Modulation in Women: A Psychiatrist’s View" at 12 noon in A-126.
Dr. Margaret Altemus will be the featured speaker. Lunch will be

Continuing Medical Education Program (Jan. 13, 20 &
27)—As part of its Continuing Medical Education Program, Weill Medical
College is offering Cornell Clinical Research Methodology Survey Courses.

MSKCC Symposium on "Gene Therapy and the Treatment
of Cancer" (Jan. 27)—This free symposium organized by Memorial Sloan-Kettering
Cancer Center will include 13 presentations by MSKCC, Weill-Cornell, and
guest speakers. The program starts at 10:00 a.m. and will be held in MSKCC’s
Rockefeller Research Laboratories, Room 116 (430 E. 67th St.). No registration

Human Genome Project Will Be Topic for R.U.’s Cohn
Forum on Health Affairs (Jan. 31)—Horace Judson, professor of history
at George Washington University, will be the guest speaker at Rockefeller
University’s Cohn Forum on Health Affairs. His lecture topic is "What Do
We Talk About When We Talk About the Human Genome Project." The reception
and lecture will be held in R.U.’s Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Dining Room
starting at 5:00 pm. Admission is free. All are welcome. For more information,

Communication Improvement Support Group—The Employee
Assistance Program Consortium at New York Weill Cornell will sponsor a
support group entitled "Improving Communication in Relationships."
These six one-hour lunchtime support groups will be held at 12 noon and
run for 6 weeks, starting on January 24. There is no fee, but reserve early

OSHA In-Service Training—As part of the continuing
in-service training on Health and Safety regulations, educational sessions
on the Medical College’s Chemical Hygiene Plan and Bloodborne Exposure
Plan will be held on the following dates in Room A-950: Chemical Hygiene
Plan: Jan. 12 (2 - 4 pm); Feb. 23 (10 am -12 pm); March 15 (2 - 4 pm);
Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Plan: Jan. 20 (10 am -12 pm); Feb. 16 (2
- 4 pm); March 7 (10 am -12 pm). Participation in one session per
year is mandatory under Federal (OSHA) regulations for all laboratory workers,
including graduate students, medical students and postdoctoral fellows
as well as their faculty supervisors, who work with chemicals or with human
blood as well as other potentially infectious materials. OSHA requires
that the names of attendees at these sessions be recorded.
State-Mandated Infection Control and Child Abuse Courses—The
state-mandated Infection Control and Child Abuse Courses required for licensure
in New York State are offered regularly by the School of Continuing Education
for Nurses, New York Weill Cornell Center. The schedule for 2000
is: Infection Control Update: Feb. 3, March 2, April 6, May 18, June 8,
July 20, Aug. 3, Sept. 21, Oct. 19, Nov. 16, Dec. 7; Infection Control
Core Course: Feb. 3, April 6, June 8, Aug. 3, Oct. 19, Dec. 7; Child Abuse
Course: Jan. 27, March 16, May 11, July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 28, Nov. 9.
All classes are held in Nursing Education, Payson House Sub-basement. The
fee is $35.00. Preregistration is suggested, as seating is limited.

A Quarter Century Landmark Plus! Update Your Medicine
June 2000 Course (June 26-30)—Sponsored by the Weill Medical College
and the Association of Practicing Physicians of The New York Hospital,
the Update Your Medicine Program presents a practical CME course—including
lectures, workshops, and Meet-the-Professor luncheons. (37.50 Category
I AMA-PRA credit.) Additional 11.5 credits available for Hands-on
Workshops. This program has also been reviewed and is acceptable
for 37.50 elective hours by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Breast Cancer Support and Information Groups Forming—Two
new resources for women with breast cancer are being offered free of charge
at New York Weill Cornell Center. One is an ongoing weekly support group
open to women with newly diagnosed breast cancer who are undergoing treatment
or who have recently completed treatment. The second resource is a bi-weekly
preoperative patient teaching session offered to women scheduled for breast
cancer surgery. Individual counseling is also available. For further information,

Flu Shots for Employees—Employees at New York Weill
Cornell Center may receive flu shots at the Occupational Health Service,
Stich Medical Building (1315 York Ave.), mezzanine level, on an express
basis and without an appointment Monday through Friday from 8 - 11:30 am,
and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1 - 4 pm, through Feb.
