Dr. Pardes to Speak at R.U.’s Cohn Forum on Health Affairs (March 6)—Dr. Herbert Pardes, President and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, will be the guest speaker at Rockefeller University’s Zanvil A. Cohn Forum on Health Affairs on Monday, March 6. Dr. Pardes’ topic will be "Toward a Sound Policy on Academic Medicine and Medical Research." A reception beginning at 5:00 pm will precede the lecture, which begins at 5:30 pm. Place: R.U.’s Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Dining Room (York Ave. and 66th St.). Admission is free. All are welcome.


Dr. Rosenberg to Present David S. Speer Lecture (March 9)—Dr. Stephen A. Rosenberg, Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and Chief of Surgery at the National Cancer Institute, will be the David S. Speer Lecturer at Weill Medical College on March 9. He will present the Speer Lecture on "The Story of M: The Development of Cancer Vaccines" at Surgery Grand Rounds at 5 pm in Uris Auditorium.


Update Your Medicine (1999-2000 CME Lecture Series)—The lecture series sponsored by Weill Medical College and the Association of Practicing Physicians of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital continues on March 15 with "New Arthritis," presented by Dr. Stephen Paget, and "Advances in Rehabilitation Medicine," presented by Dr. Willibald Nagler. Program for Children and Adolescents with HIV/AIDS (March 16)—The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases is sponsoring an "Educational Forum and Benefit" event in the Hospital Lobby (by the Information Desk) on Thursday, March 16, from 11-5 pm. (Gifts and toys for sale; items to be raffled; meet program staff). All are welcome.


Dr. Dannenberg to Speak at Cancer Prevention Dinner (March 23)—In recognition of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, The NewYork-Presbyterian Cancer Prevention Center will host a dinner presentation by its co-director, Dr. Andrew Dannenberg, on Thursday, March 23rd, at 6:30 p.m. at Terrace in the Sky Restaurant (400 West 119th St.).  Dr. Dannenberg’s topic will be "A Novel Approach to Preventing Gastrointestinal Malignancies."  Space is limited.  RSVP to Alexandra Gruener at 774-1987 by Monday, March 20th.

Update Your Medicine June 2000 Course (June 26-30)—Sponsored by the Weill Medical College and the Association of Practicing Physicians of The New York Hospital, the Update Your Medicine Program presents a practical CME course—including lectures, workshops, and Meet-the-Professor luncheons. Volunteers Needed for Chronic Pain Study—Investigators in the Department of Anesthesiology are conducting a study of a new system for giving intrathecal morphine to patients with chronic, intractable pain. Volunteers, age 18-75, who are eligible for a therapeutic trial of intrathecal morphine, may be eligible to receive this therapy using a new intraspinal low profile delivery system (approved for clinical trials by the Food and Drug Administration).
