NEW YORK WEILL CORNELL MEDICAL CENTER ANNOUNCES KEY APPOINTMENTS
IN CARDIOLOGY
New York, NY (March 2000) -- New York Weill Cornell Medical
Center of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has announced the appointment of
two nationally recognized leaders in cardiology. Rubin S. Cooper,
M.D., will head its Division of Pediatric Cardiology, and S. Chiu Wong,
M.D., will head the Adult Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in the Division
of Cardiology.
Rubin S. Cooper, M.D.
Rubin S. Cooper, M.D., a specialist in congenital heart disease and
rheumatic fever, has been named Director of Pediatric Cardiology and Associate
Director of the Pediatric Cardiovascular Center, an integrated program
with Columbia Presbyterian’s Babies & Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Cooper comes to New York Weill Cornell from North Shore University
Hospital, where he was Chief of Pediatric Cardiology and Associate Chairman
of Pediatrics. Prior to that he was Chief of Pediatric Cardiology
at Brookdale Hospital Center and Co-Director of Pediatric Cardiology at
SUNY/Downstate Health Science Center in Brooklyn. He is a graduate
of Yeshiva University and New York Medical College.
Dr. Cooper is the author or co-author of more than 20 articles in the
medical and scientific literature. He is active in several research
projects and has interests in adult congenital heart disease, 3-dimensional
echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, telemedicine/telecardiology,
and Kawasaki disease. Among his professional affiliations are the
American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the New
York Academy of Science, and the New York Society of Pediatric Cardiologists.
S. Chiu Wong, M.D.
S. Chiu Wong, M.D., a noted educator and authority in the field of interventional
cardiology, has been appointed Director of the Cardiac Catheterization
Laboratory in the Division of Cardiology.
Dr. Wong joined New York Weill Cornell Medical Center in 1999.
He is a graduate of Columbia University and Columbia University College
of Physicians & Surgeons. Dr. Wong completed his medical residency
and fellowship in cardiology at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center in
New York and received his interventional training at the Scripps Clinic
and Research Foundation in San Diego, California. Following Scripps,
he was appointed Director of the Coronary Stent Program at the Washington
Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Wong is the author or co-author of more than 80 scientific articles
in invasive and interventional cardiology. He is a member of the
American College of Physicians, the American Heart Association, and a Fellow
of the American College of Cardiology.
