The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology includes 27 full-time obstetrician/gynecologists who specialize in helping women maintain and improve their health through annual checkups, screening programs, general obstetrical care and specialty care. Our full-time Clinical Faculty are organized under the following Specialties:


General Obstetrics/Gynecology

The Division provides a full range of gynecologic surgery for the treatment of benign gynecologic disorders. These include treatment of pelvic tumors, correction of genital anomalies, repair of pelvic tumors and repair of pelvic floor defects. The latest laser surgery techniques are available. Many procedures can be performed on an ambulatory basis.

Gynecologic Oncology

Oncologists provide state-of-the-art care for patients with cancer or precancerous conditions of the lower reporductive tract, in addition to diagnosis and treatment of related gynecologic disorders. Infectious Disease and Immunology

The Immunology and Microbiology Testing Unit is a referral center for the immunological and microbiological evaluation of male and female partners of couples with fertility problems. Testing includes comprehensive morphological sperm assessment, quantitative antisperm antibody evaluation of sers, semen and cervical mucus and dection of Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Mycoplasma hominis, and aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in genital tract samples. The Laboratory's emphasis is the diagnosis of difficult cases of "unexplained" infertility by employing state of the art techniques under strict laboratory supervision. Dr. Witkin is a recognized and respected authority in the field of reproductive immunoly and gynecological infections.



Maternal/Fetal Medicine

The Department's high-risk obstetricians provide specialty care for pregnant women with a history of difficult or failed pregnancies as well as those at risk from diabetes, hypertension or other medical disorders. Fetal anomalies are diagnosed and, in some cases, treated in the fetal ultrasound unit using state-of-the-art sonography, fetal echocardiograms and percutaneous umbilical fetal blood sampling (PUBS). A comprehensive genetic counseling service provides support and information for couples who are considering testing procedures, including amniocentesis and chronic villus sampling, for fetal genetic disorders.

State-of-the-art obstetrical ultrasound examinations are performed in the ultrasound unit at the Medical Center. All ultrasound examinations include careful examination to rule out fetal anomalies. Both routine and specilized examinations are performed under the supervision of Dr. Frank Chervenak, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and recognized authority in the field of obstetrical ultrasound.

Reproductive Endocrinology

Dedicated to providing advanced medical and surgical care for the infertile couple using the newest reproductive techniques and state-of-the-art micromanipulation (ICSI) including preimplantation genetic diagnosis and donor oocyte (egg).
