New York-Prebyterian Hospital, Westchester Division Wins Beautification Award

White Plains, NY (November 19, 2002) – The Westchester Division of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has received a Certificate of Appreciation from the White Plains Beautification Foundation. The award, presented at the November 18th meeting of the Foundations' Board of Directors at the White Plains Public Library, was granted in recognition of the hospital's efforts in the beautification of its property at 21 Bloomingdale Road.

The Beautification Foundation annually recognizes those businesses in White Plains that have demonstrated a commitment to the aesthetic improvement of their property, and through that effort, an interest in the beautification of the city of White Plains. Marianne Coughlin, Administrator of the Westchester Division, accepted the award on behalf of the hospital.


VOLUNTEERS HONORED AT NEWYORK-PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL, WESTCHESTER DIVISION

White Plains, NY (June 17, 2002) – The Westchester Division of  NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital held its annual Volunteer Recognition Lunch on May 16th. Volunteers who were honored are assigned to patient units, the patient computer literacy program and the gift shop.  Some assist clinical researchers with their studies.

At the lunch, held on the hospital’s White Plains campus, staff joined in acknowledging the outstanding community service and dedication of all the volunteers in attendance, none cuter than two four-legged guests from the Good Dog Foundation of Stamford, CT.   Diane Clark, Manager of Volunteer and Patient Services, and Dr. Virginia Susman, the Westchester Division’s Associate Medical Director, addressed the gathering and presented special awards to the men and women who had achieved certain  volunteer levels during the past year.

Three volunteers attained the hospital’s highest honor, the 5000 hour plaque.  They are Elizabeth Duboff of Valhalla; Kay Hamilton, White Plains, and Elisabeth Harris, Port Chester.  The NewYork-Presbyterian Pin for 500 hours served was awarded to Linda Alvarez of Yonkers.

Certificates of Merit designating 150 volunteer hours were given to Pamela Ancowitz of Mamaroneck; Vitaly Belogortsev, Ossining; Helen Cuccia, Larchmont; Bonnie Doran, Glen Oaks; Antonia Errazuriz, New York City; Margarita Lorence, Brooklyn; Lauren Santucci, Bronxville; Susan Squillante, Harrison; Elving Garcia, The Bronx; Julianne Susman, Cross River; Goutami Sanyal, White Plains.

Excellence for Service Award
Honors Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program

White Plains,NY
The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program at New-York Presbyterian Hospital has received the "Excellence for Service" award from the New York City Metro Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), the regional chapter of the National RID. The program was recognized for providing innovative mental health treatment and for its dedication and service to the deaf and hard of hearing community. Kathleen Friedman, CSW, CSC, program director and Jeff Wax, CSW-R, IC, TC, program manager were singled out for their dual skills as clinicians and certified interpreters, and for their leadership and commitment to serving this population.

In presenting the annual award, Ilene Miner, CSW, Director of Mental Health Services, League for the Hard of Hearing stated that the hospital's program provides mental health services that the deaf and hard of hearing population cannot access from other agencies. She cited the various programs at the hospital that work collaboratively with the DHHP program, and emphasized their leadership role in the Coalition of Organizations Serving the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, which Ms. Friedman chairs. Special recognition was also given to Mr. Wax's exemplary work with individuals, groups, and families in the wake of the World Trade Center disaster.
